Sparks of Inspiration:

– Stationary Holder / Me / Sewing
– DP Needle Pouches / Me / Embroider+Sew / ASAP

Current Status:

Gabriela Slouch Hat – Friend:
– Yeah….haven’t worked on this at all 😦

Alpaca Warmer:
– I’m seriously contemplating nixing the project :\ I just hate the seriously-stiff feel of it even though I love the over-sized stitches! Decisions, decisions…

Baile ruffle skirt – 40%:
– I LOVE this skirt! The shaping is great…stockinette still bores me lol
– Got past the increases and now just working on decreases. Once I’m done with that, straight knitting until the end.
– It looks too small but I think I lucked out when I decided to use wool, instead of cotton 😀 It stretches but is form fitting 🙂

January 2011 ACI List

9 01 2011

January 2011 ACI List:
– Gabriela Slouch Hat (re-do) / Friend / Knit / June 6
– Alpaca Warmer / Me / Knit / Whenever
– Baile ruffle skirt (test pattern) / Me / Knit / March 21
– Capricorn Kitten in the Year of Kittens / Me / Crochet / Jan 20

Sparks of Inspiration:
– Cuddle mat/bed for donating this year
– Numerous projects in my Queue on Ravelry
– Stationary Holder / Me / Sewing
– DP Needle Pouches / Me / Embroider+Sew / ASAP

Current Status:

Gabriela Slouch Hat – Friend:
– I haven’t even touched this since the last time
– I gave her daughter her gift for Christmas already. It turned out that hat was good but the ribbing was too tight!! 😦 So now she wears it as a beanie, instead of a slouch hat ….still good?

Alpaca Warmer – Me:
– I actually had cast on a few weekends ago. And I keep re-reading the pattern but no matter what, I really do think that it’s written with too few stitches for it to be folded lengthwise. But maybe it was a typo and it should’ve said width-wise.
– I’ll get back to this when I have a chance. Not too urgent right now.

Baile ruffle skirt (test pattern) – Me:
– The designer (armyofknitters on Ravelry) helped me narrow down the yarn to use. She advises using cotton for its weight. I’m a fan of cottons blends but even bigger fan of wool since it’s always so darn cold up here. The cotton would hold its shape but I feel like it always gets weird on me (tunic) whereas the wool has always done right by me 😛 and would be a lighter weight skirt.
– It’s down to KnitPicks CotLin (cotton, linen blend) in a yummy Harbour (teal) color or Debbie Bliss Cotton Cashmere (cotton, cashmere blend) in an almost muted teal. I absolutely love the CotLin color but I love the cotton/cashmere so we’ll have to see. If nothing else, I can always knit a new one too 🙂 So I just need to buy the yarn and get started!

Capricorn Kitten in the Year of Kittens – Me:
– I found a set of patterns for kittens with aspects based on the astrological signs of the western zodiac. Me and my obsession with sets of things – I’m determined to crochet the whole set in a year! 🙂 (I may just have lost my mind….)
– So each kitten needs to be completed within and by the date of the astrological sign, thus Capricorn Kitten must be crocheted and finished by Jan 20….time crunch 😛

2011 Craft Resolution

9 01 2011

Yay for 2011!! It’s a new year and with it comes a new crafting resolution 🙂

My craft resolution for 2011 is as follows:

  • Work on WIPs and finish them within 4 weeks of picking them up again
  • Craft 12 items from my Ravelry queue – be they big, small, medium, whatever
  • Plan and start Christmas gifts early – like in the summer
  • Craft more things for myself
  • Craft at least 1 item for donation (more than likely will be for an animal rescue organization)

I’m hoping I can stick to this! Notice how I didn’t mention anything about my stash 😀

I always vow to stop enhancing my stash – doesn’t usually work out that way! It’s better just not to vow it than to break the vow 😛

Infinity Scarf:
– Going on a biz trip this week, which is when I plan on starting and finishing this project!
– Quite a basic yet sophisticated looking infinity scarf

Current Status:

Gabriela Slouch Hat – Friend:
– Damnit, have to knit backwards 😦
– I need about 16 more rows before the decreases and then it should be good

Baby Booties for Friend
– My first commissioned project! Woooo!!!
– I’ve got the pattern, I’ve got the yarn…just have to get it on the needles!
– I’m adding a comp’ed headband for my first commissions 🙂 Hopefully it’ll be a nice touch and really add that extra valule to my work 🙂

Knit backwards

3 11 2010

Argh – I have to knit backwards with the Gabriela Slouch Hat! 😦 AND, what’s worse is that I already cut the yarn because someone at work was talking to me and I got distracted from remembering to try ON the hat. Sigh… The stretched rib edge is perfect…the slouch is non-existent! It’s more like a beanie right now 😦

So I have to go back, knit backwards to the pattern repeat. I figure I’ll add another 4 pairs of repeats of the pattern, for a total of another 16 rows and then continue with the decreases. Oh boy…I’ve never knit back THIS far before 😦

But, I’ll have to put this on hold for a second – I’ve got to get those baby booties on the needle and finished! My first commissioned project!! 🙂 Yay!!!

– Christmas Gift / Friend / Knit / December
– Christmas Gift / BOSS / Beading / December

Current Status:

Gabriela Slouch Hat – Mini-M:
– 100%! Done!
– Have to photograph and package for gifting

Gabriela Slouch Hat – Friend:
– Started on Oct 14th, it’s been on a off/on basis (as per my typical method) but I’d say I’m roughly 60% done. Probably more though since I’m already decreasing
– Started w/ US 7 in the pattern but found I was knitting too tight so, since I was using my trusting Boyd interchangeables, switched out one of the US 7 for a US 8, muuuuch better 🙂
– From the get-go (ie when I bought the yarn), I felt I was JUST going to make it with the yardage….keeping my fingers crossed still!

Alpaca Warmer – Me:
– Finally unraveled the original, will get it started for moi 🙂

Christmas Gift for Friend:
– Okay, this is a toughie! I work with this person. She lives in TX. I’m seriously racking my brain on this one. It’s TX – not very cold!
– I know she’s a NOLA Saints fan, TX Rangers fan and is just all-around awesome. Sooo…what to make?!
– Side thought on this: I don’t REALLY think it’s an issue but I have more than 1 co-worker in TX. I can’t really make something for one but not the other? Or does it even matter? I got the other one something last time I was there – does that mean I should do it again? I’m equally as close to them both (at the time, only one was my co-worker)

Christmas Gift for BOSS:
– Okay, nerve racking! Saw this awesome pair of earrings in The Earring Style Book (want it for Christmas too!)
– Just received 90% of the materials. The last item is out of stock at the moment.
– Pairing these earrings with a travel mug + awesome teas but I still feel like I’m missing something!! All in all, the earrings will cost somewhere in the $25 range + a travel tea mug (the place I WANT to get them from range from $17 – $25. The $17 is for bagged tea, $25 for loose tea…more like a gift for me!) + whatever assorted teas.
– Historically, I’ve spent $50 on my boss @ Christmas time. Herein lies the issue with handmade gifts – I know how much it costs and I know how much time it will take but I almost, almost feel unsure about whether it’s enough or not. But, will the receiver be like “oh. earrings.” Hmmm…
