Year Long AwesomeKnittedItem-a-long (AKI2008 for short!)

28 12 2007

Link: Year Long Gift-A-Long

I came across this blog-gift-a-long through SwapDex (highly recommended!) and after reading the “rules”, I TOTALLY love the idea!!! Not only does it keep me on track for gifts, it keeps me on track for BLOGGING!! 🙂 Now, I do like making items for people (aka gifts)…BUT, would you believe that in my 3+ years of knitting, I’ve only made ONE thing for myself!?!? So instead of a GIFT-a-long…I’m going to make it an AwesomeKnittedItem (AKI)-a-long 🙂

So I’m going to post the (revised) rules on here too to remind me of what I need to do weekly:

Rules & Housekeeping for AKI2008

Rules
(a) Post an AKI List each month including AKI Item / Recipient / Occasion / Deadline; ex. Lace Shawl/Mom/Mother’s Day/May 1
(b) Post regular updates by the last weekday of each month: Updates = Work In Progress (WIP), DONE, Rollover
(c) Contribute to the AKI Ideas List (aka Sparks of Inspiration)

Housekeeping

  1. Monthly AKI Lists must be 5 items or less (sets and pairs of things count as 1 item)
  2. You can rollover an item to a new month, but you should maintain your list limit of 5
  3. You can change out items at any time, but you must post about it
  4. If possible, post Work in Progress photos and Finished photos

So that’s my plan for my blog this year! Hopefully I’ll finish a NUMBER of AKIs for 2008! Yay! I think I’ll start on the 1st 🙂

Knitting magazines…

16 11 2007

Okay, I finally understand now…this is what I get for preferring to not purchase monthly Interweave Knits issues….ESPECIALLY when there are patterns that I kind of like!! Argh! Look!!

I totally realized it when I saw this post on Craftster: Finished Minimalist

Doesn’t that cardigan just look awesome?! Looks like she definitely swatched! (Argh I so can’t do the swatching thing…) But see, the magazine photo TOTALLY didn’t look fitted! I mean look! It looks totally baggy and form-less…but it looks great custom-fitted! I totally want to find the pattern and make it for myself…except for the fact that the Winter 2007 issue has already been released and this pattern is from the Fall issue….oh and IK says it’s been sold out so I can’t buy it online either…

So the moral of the story: BUY THE ISSUES! I usually have a rule when it comes to buying knitting magazines/books: I must like at least half of the patterns in the magazine/book and originally, I didn’t like half of the patterns…but it’s the one that got away that really gets you in the end!! Like this one!! Argh! See and not to mention, it looked horrible on the model in the magazine but it looks great on the fellow knitter! Sigh, I guess, good luck finding it, right? Sigh 😦

check out this awesome pirate costume for chicks!! Threadbangers [Wordpress won’t let me embed the vid!! 😦 oh poop!]

and you can’t tell me that THIS one isn’t awesome too!: Guybrush and Elaine for Monkey Island fans everywhere!! 🙂 yay for a hopeful MI 5!! 🙂

Masquerade…

17 10 2007

I love masquerades! Absolutely LOVE them! Beautiful masks and costumes, especially those found at Carnavale!! I promised myself that when I travel to Venice, I will buy a bunch of handcrafted masks…which I know will be a pretty penny but I’m gonna do it! 🙂

Perfect for a Mermaid – aka ME!!

16 10 2007

Wow, talk about elegant! I love it!!

Mum’s Seashore

I mean, really, be truthful here…wouldn’t that look lovely on a mermaid?? lol Truly beautiful and exquisite! Very lovely color palette too! I’m totally in love with it!

Reusable Gift Wrap – Eco- and Wallet- Friendly!

16 10 2007

I LOVE THIS IDEA!! How cute is it?? Kinda makes you think of olden times, no? I’m totally going to give it a try this holiday season!

Reusable alternative to wrapping paper

I especially love the fact that it’s totally customizable to your tastes because everyone can agree that there are some wrapping paper options that are completely hideous! And, don’t forget, totally boring! But this is great!

And I dig one poster’s comment about making an envelope one with a fake stamp! How cute! I like the ribbons and all but the button/velcro idea may work too….there’s always room for more fabric wrap 🙂 Since I’ll be crafting gifts for everyone this year, this may be the PERFECT wrapping! 🙂
